Sometimes the Spirit of God empowers us to change circumstances. Sometimes the Spirit of God longs to commune with us in our pain. This is more than empathy — it is sharing in our suffering.
While it's not as sunshiny as getting rid of discomfort, there's still great beauty in this type of communion. I don't mean to paint an overly dark picture of God. At times the Holy Spirit's task is to bring relief. But the highest aim is always God's glory via communion.
Thus, I suggest prayers to this effect:
Holy Spirit, I invite you into my situation either to change it or share in it with me. May the will of the Father be done. May our unity be increased.
