The Value of Routine

Jesus had a path to prayer that was habit. We're not told how often this happened exactly, but we know it was evident to people around him that this was common practice.

While routines aren't always put in the most exciting light, they are highly valuable. Humans tend to need things impressed in them by repetition. A professional basketball player shoots three-pointers day in and day out to hone his skill. A good photographer takes pictures each day to perfect her craft. In order to stay healthy, one ought to exercise several times a week, etc.

Certain rhythms of life behoove humans (and some might need removing).   Consider that God, who is revealed in creation, has built cycles into nearly everything. We'd do well to take note and intentionally build life-giving routines.
